A Slice of Bliss

Fall reminds me of fresh, crisp apples. And apples remind me of caramel apples. And caramel apples make me crazy. I love the tartness of the apple juxtaposed with the sweet caramel, and sometimes a whole caramel apple just doesn't cut it. I want more caramel in each bite! So I made caramel apple slices to guarantee that I would have sweet caramel goodness in every single bite.
~Melinda

Ingredients:
Milk
1 package of individually wrapped caramels
Crisp apples of your choice (I used Granny Smith)

I used an 11 oz. package of caramels and added 1.5 tablespoons of milk. (For a 14 oz. package I would use 2 tablespoons). Melt in the microwave for 3-4 minutes, or until chunks are completely gone.

Before microwaving

After microwaving

After dipping the apples, let cool on wax or parchment paper. While making these, I found that when I laid the apples on their sides to cool, the caramel was less likely to drip off. However, I will admit that after a while I stopped using toothpicks and proceeded to simply dip the apple in caramel and eat it straightaway.
