Underground Fashion Show

Last weekend I was invited to an underground fashion show in Seattle. Chance fashion (https://www.facebook.com/ChanceNW) organizes shows for local designers, photographers, and artists. I have never been to an "underground" fashion show, which are notorious for alternative/scene/emo/steampunk/gothic fashion, and didn't know what to expect.

Once at the event, it wasn't the fashion that caught my eye. It was the support from the audience, and the encouragement the designers, photographers, and event organizers gave each other. Attending the show was like being a guest at a family event; I was pleasantly surprised at the closely knit support system. It is this admirable level of support that the artists show for each other that will bring me back to more underground fashion shows.

Though the underground fashion may not necessarily be parallel with my personal style, there were many unique concepts that caught my eye. Most notable were the pinterest-worthy recycled tees from Libertine Clothes by Kristen Ivy, a skirt from Tana Yasu with leather pleats in the back, and flouncy capelets by Rhaychell Anne of ZeroMinx. It will be interesting to observe how their designs evolve and grow in future shows.

  9. This looks like it was fun. I went to an alternative fashion show once. It was a long time ago and I was working at a store called Retro Viva. There were 3 of them actually one in the UD, one in Capitol Hill and one down town. From what I recall the boutique was involved. It was fun.
